Islanders Ground Falcons 39-0

Mar. 8, 2008

Fresno, Ca.  The Islanders inaugural road trip resulted in another win for the first year team. After a long bus ride down to Central California, the Islanders "Blackout D" returned in a big way by shutting out the South Valley Falcons and not allowing them to move the ball all day. The defense scored 10 points of their own, 6 on a fumble return for a touchdown and 2 safeties.

The defensive line for Pacifica dominated the line of scrimmage the entire game. Sacking the Falcons quarterback 10 times and limiting South Valley’s offensive production to a negative 10 yards (- 45 including penalty yardage). During one of those sacks the Islanders defense was able to jar the ball loose creating a fumble. It was picked up by Islander linebacker Chauncey Ako and returned for a touchdown. Defensive standouts also included Kenuto Lorenzetti, Sione Kofeloa, Cisco Lutu, Sam Iosia, Tommy Pratt and Ed Tatola.

Quarterback Jason Piccolotti also had the offense firing on all cylinders. On their first possession he hit wide receiver Nick Iano for a 75 yard touchdown over the middle. That opening score set the tempo for the rest of the game. On their second possession Pacifica again drove right down the field and scored another touchdown on a Jermaine Hargraves 12 yard run.

Late in the second quarter Piccolotti handed the reins to his teammate and fellow QB Dion Pickett. Dion quickly picked up where Piccolotti left. Driving his team down the field and scoring 2 touchdowns of his own. One of them by passing it through the air to veteran wide receiver Andre Kelley and the other on a run and headfirst dive into the end zone.

The game ended with the Islanders sacking the Falcons quarterback in their own end zone as the last second ticked off the clock scoring another 2 points and making the final score 39-0.
